Why I Moved from Toronto to Hamilton — And Why You Might Too

“Why the &#*$ did you move from Toronto to Hamilton?”

That’s a question I’ve been asked more times than I can count.

My name is Morgan Little — I’m a Realtor who has served clients across Toronto, Mississauga, and now Hamilton. And while I still help clients buy and sell across the GTA, I recently made the move myself — and I want to walk you through why.

🧭 My Background (And Why I’m Picky About Where I Live)

I’ve lived in some of Canada’s largest cities — Toronto (12 years), Montreal (10 years), and Ottawa — but I grew up in Northern Ontario (Sudbury and Manitoulin Island). On top of that, I’ve toured the country as a performing artist and have visited most major cities in Canada. All that to say: I know what makes a city great. And when it came time to put down roots, I had a checklist — affordability, lifestyle, access to nature, family-friendly neighbourhoods, and still feeling connected to culture.

💸 Affordability Was the First Factor

I work in real estate — I know the market. And I’ll be the first to tell you: if you have the budget for a home in Toronto, that’s amazing. But when I was looking for a primary residence for myself and my growing family, it just didn’t make sense to stretch to the limit. We considered Barrie, Oshawa, Bowmanville… but Hamilton kept standing out.

🌳 Lifestyle and Space Came Next

Hamilton is Canada’s 8th largest city with around 800,000 residents — but it doesn’t feel cramped. It offers:
More space for your dollar
Tons of green space and over 100 waterfalls
Parks, trails, and family-friendly neighbourhoods
Proximity to Toronto (but without the price tag)
When we showed up to our new home for the first walk-through, three neighbours came out to introduce themselves. One had kids the same age as ours. That sense of community is something we hadn’t experienced in years.

🍽️ Culture, Coffee, and Charm

I’m still a city person at heart — I love great food, live music, and cool shops.
Hamilton surprised me in the best way.
Amazing local restaurants and cafes
Vintage shops, galleries, and events
An active nightlife scene (for those still in their party era)
A growing population of creatives and entrepreneurs making the move from Toronto
Hamilton used to be known as "The Hammer" (not always in a good way), but it’s transforming — and fast.

🏡 Final Thoughts

This move wasn’t just about real estate. It was about quality of life. Now that I’ve made the move, I love helping others do the same — especially Toronto buyers who are realizing they can get more for their money without giving up city life entirely. If you’re curious about making the move, or just want to chat through your options — I’d be happy to help.
